Heather Hutsell represents employers and insurance carriers in defending workers' compensation claims and employers' liability in both Kansas and Missouri. She often writes submission letters, trial briefs, Medicare set-aside trust proposals, workers' compensation and attorney ethics seminar materials and opinion letters. She conducts research and drafts memoranda on a range of legal issues.
Currently, Ms. Hutsell is a contributing author to a quarterly review of the Missouri Labor and Industrial Relations Commission for the Missouri Workers' Compensation Law Quarterly. In this role, she evaluates commissioners' decisions and comments on the effects on workers' compensation law.
While at the University of Kansas School of Law, Ms. Hutsell was a Journal of Law and Public Policy staff member and an ambassador to the law school. Prior to joining McAnany, Van Cleave & Phillips, she worked as a judicial clerk for the Honorable Judge Steve Leben of the Johnson County District Court, where she served as co-editor of Court Review, a national publication for judges.
An avid runner, Ms. Hutsell has completed the New York City Marathon. She enjoys running, traveling, volunteering in her community and working with the Leadership Academy through the Kansas City, Kansas Schools.
