A shareholder at McAnany, Van Cleave & Phillips, Christopher Patt concentrates his practice on workers' compensation defense. He actively works with employers and insurance companies to defend their interests. He communicates with clients frequently to be fully aware of their litigation goals. Mr. Patt tours employers' facilities to understand the nature of their business, giving him a working knowledge of their employees' tasks to more effectively defend injury claims.
Mr. Patt conducts trials before the Illinois and Missouri Divisions of Workers' Compensation and argues cases before the Missouri Labor and Industrial Relations Commission and the Missouri Court of Appeals Eastern District. He successfully defended General Electric before the trial court and the Labor and Industrial Relations Commission, where both courts denied benefits because of the employee's contradictory testimony during cross-examination. Mr. Patt also defended Silverleaf Resorts in a case where the employee, a security guard, was shot while testing a firearm at home. Mr. Patt successfully argued in front of the trial court and the Labor and Industrial Relations Commission that those actions were unrelated to the employee's job duties. He then presented oral arguments before the Missouri Court of Appeals, who upheld the decision in favor of the employer.
Mr. Patt often lectures on workers' compensation issues. He speaks at numerous educational seminars for attorneys, insurance companies, nurse case managers, human resource specialists and employers in Missouri, Illinois and Wisconsin. He has given topical presentations to employers such as Pepsi, Frito-Lay, and Yellow Transportation. Mr. Patt supports Kids Chance of Missouri and resides in St. Louis with his wife, Melissa, and their two young daughters. He is from Wisconsin and is, of course, an avid Green Bay Packers fan.
